HENNEZ & MAURITZ (H&M)
FASHION AGAINST AIDS was an annual collection and image campaign promoted internationally by Hennes & Mauritz (H&M) and released in 34 countries. Following his work as Creative Director of the original project Javier Barcala consulted for H&M on 5 global collections and visual campaigns (print, films, online, street, in-store...) on styles, visual trends, more than 30 world-class acts including RIHANNA, KATY PERRY, PHARRELL, YOKO ONO, MOBY or CYNDI LAUPER, global partnerships such as UNFPA, MTV Staying Alive and Youthaids, and events the likes of Life Ball Vienna, Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, International Festival of Benicassim and Glastonbury, among many others.
DESIGNERS AGAINST AIDS (D.A.A.)
Designers Against AIDS is an international platform that aims to reach out to young people by using their favorite celebrities from the worlds of music, fashion, sports and art to raise their awareness on the importance to practice safe sex.
During his time as Creative Director for the organization Javier Barcala has worked on 50+ projects with over 300 artists, designers and influencers the world over. Through multiple successful collaborations with lifestyle brands such as MARC JACOBS, CALVIN KLEIN, COINTREAU, EASTPAK, PLAYBOY or JEAN PAUL GAULTIER... selling in renowned stores such as Colette and Dover Street Market, and through media coverage in lifestyle TV, glossy magazines and daily newspapers (International Herald Tribune, Vogue, Interview, i-D, Vanity Fair, MTV, Elle, Marie Claire, Le Monde, El País, New York Times...), DAA has gathered an international reputation as one of the leading youth-oriented organizations in the world today.

THE BELIEVERS - SMASHING FUTURE FASHION
THE BELIEVERS was an art-meets-fashion platform and traveling exhibition showcasing fashion technology, future crafts and sustainability in avant-garde design in collaboration with renowned artists and designers and fashion institutions such as FIT New York, London Central Saint-Martins, HEAD Geneva and Centre de Mode et Design in Brussels among others.
Javier Barcala curated and consulted for the collective on visual campaigns (print and online, films,...) and traveling exhibitions during New York Fashion Week, Vogue’s Fashion’s Night Out and London Fashion Week.
HIGH FASHION LOW COUNTRIES
Initiated by the Netherlands Embassy in Belgium, HIGH FASHION LOW COUNTRIES was a campaign project aimed to connect Belgian and Dutch emerging fashion designers with avant-garde brands and known design institutes to explore the new frontiers in fashion technology and sustainable design.
The selected designers worked on capsule collections to be presented in a joint traveling exhibition through major fashion and art venues in Amsterdam, Antwerp, Brussels, Eindhoven and London. The work in progress was documented in a print glossy magazine and a fashion documentary following the designers at work preparing for the final exhibition, as well as commentaries by influencers from Belgium and The Netherlands. Javier Barcala consulted for HFLW selecting participant artists and collaborative brands and institutions, as well as directing the visual campaign, exhibitions and fashion documentary.
Collaborators included London Somerset House, London Fashion Week, Amsterdam Fashion Week, the Body Shop, Woolmark, Flanders Fashion Institute, Dutch Fashion Foundation, de Brakke Grond, UPS, MAD Brussels, Dutch Design Week and Modint among others.
LA FORTUNA STUDIO
Barcala has consulted for international magazines, designers, artists, commercial brands and public institutions on image campaigns, coming up with creative concepts and executing projects that bridge contemporary art, fashion and commerce all over Europe, US and Japan.
